Barcelona travel guide

Barcelona, situated in the Catalonia region on the Mediterranean sea, is Spain’s second largest city and its largest port. It is one of the country’s leading cultural centres and the focus of Catalan art and literature. The city’s numerous fine buildings include the Palace of the Aragon kings, a 14th-15th centuries Cathedral and a 14th-century monastery as well as several art nouveau buildings designed by Antonio Gaudi, in particular the famous Sagrada Familia. Barcelona with its museums, theatres and art galleries is one of the nicest cities to visit. Barcelona is not just art and culture, but also sunshine, sandy beaches and an intense nightlife. The best way to visit the city is by walking everywhere. The pedestrian street of Las Ramblas lined with outdoor cafés is a great place to watch the world go by. The medieval Gothic district, “Barri Gotic”, with its narrow winding streets full of tapas bars and cafés is an enchanting place where to spend a few hours just wandering around. The waterfront which runs from Barceloneta to the Olympic village has been revamped in recent years and is now full of lovely bars and paella restaurants.
