When visiting Barcelona you certainly won’t miss La Rambla, a long boulevard full of shops, colourful markets and plenty of all day action with jugglers, street artists, stalls selling flowers and much more.  The Boqueria market, next to the Palau de la Virreina an interesting rococo mansion dating back to the 18th century, in particular is well worth a visit for the internal bars as well as the market itself.  Just east of Las Ramblas is the Gothic Quarter with its interconnecting streets linking with squares and a great variety of bars and cafés. Barri Gòtic is full of medieval Gothic buildings from the 14th and 15th century with the Cathedral, the Palau de la Generalitat and the Ajuntament being its main sights. The number one attraction in Barcelona is no doubt Gaudi’s La Sagrada Famìlia, the spires of the unfinished cathedral have caused much controversy amongst architects as to how they should be completed after Gaudi died before finishing his masterpiece. Other works by Gaudi are La Pedrera also known as Casa Milà and Parc Güell, a park landscaped in spectacular way with stunning views over the city, the Casa Museu Gaudi within the ground was his home for the last 20 years of his life.
The most visited museum in Barcelona is the Picasso Museum set within three medieval buildings, although most of his famous pieces are not kept here a visit is a good insight to his development as an artist. To enjoy the view over the city go to Tibidabo, a 542 meters hill with spectacular panoramas over Barcelona and an amusement park with many attractions, and to  Montjuïc hill which overlooks Barcelona from the southwest. Montjuïc also has some excellent art galleries including the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Fundació Joan Miró and is home to the Olympic Stadium which was used in the 1992 Olympic Games.
