Gran Canaria travel guide

Gran Canaria, with its 236 km of coastline and an almost perfect round shape, gathers all different aspects of the Canary Islands including well equipped beach resorts, fantastic tourist facilities, beautiful countryside, lovely fishing towns and a perfect climate for the practice of water sports. The southern part of the island is dry and sunny as the clouds coming from the north are stopped by the mountains in the middle. The southern coast has the most beaches and the highest concentration of tourist resorts with San Agustin, Playa del Ingles and Maspaloma making up one of the most important tourist complexes in Spain offering a wide variety of hotels, apartments, restaurants, bars, shopping and plenty of entertainment options. Maspaloma with its 250 hectares of sand dunes by the sea and oasis of palm trees resembling an authentic desert by the sea is the focal point of the 50 km of diverse beaches down south. The smaller resorts of Puerto Rico and Mogan are the ideal place for water sports including windsurfing, parachuting into the sea, deep-sea fishing and sailing. They both have a marina: from the harbour in Puerto Rico is possible to go out on boat excursions, while, Mogan a typical fishing village, has a picturesque marina full of boats where to find incredibly fresh fish.
