There are three important holiday resorts in Lanzarote, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. The main one is certainly Puerto del Carmen featuring over 6 km of golden sandy beaches including Playa Fariones, Playa Grande and Playa Matagorda as well as a good range of accommodation. The wonderful all year round climate allows for a choice of watersports from windsurfing and diving, to surfing and snorkeling. The splendid coastline is coupled by plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and all sorts of entertainment. The nighlife is buzzing with something to offer to everyone, good restaurants and lovely open-air cafés as well as music bars and clubs that stay open all night.
Just a few kilometres from Arrecife, the island's capital, Costa Teguise is another important resort in Lanzarote featuring a choice of first class accommodation, a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Here, like everywhere else on the island, the climate conditions are prime for water sports, and activities such as windsurfing, sailing and deep sea fishing can be enjoyed all year round. The beach of Las Cucharas in particular offers favourable conditions for widsurfers.
Finally Playa Blanca, situated on the island's southern region, is a flourishing resort that has retained the atmosphere of a small fishing village. A tranquil spot ideal for families and for people looking for a relaxing time. Playa Blanca has a beach lined with characteristic restaurants, a promenade full of charming shops and a great view of the mountains and the island of Fuerteventura to which is connected several ferry connections daily departing from the hrbour. The wonderful Papagayo beaches that are considered amongst the most beautiful in Spain are only a short drive away.
