Museo del Prado, Paseo del Prado
Opening hours: 9-19h, Tuesday to Sunday, holidays included. Closed Monday
Free entrance all day Sunday and on 2nd & 18th May, 12th October, 6th December.
The Prado is one of the most important art museums in Europe and amongst the best in the world. The collection includes sculptures, drawings, paintings and other art objects. The Villanueva building houses Spanish paintings from romantic to 19th century styles, as well as important works by Italian, Flemish, French Dutch, German and English artists.

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Paseo del Prado, 8
Opening hours: 10-19h. Closed Monday, 1st Jan, 1st May & 25th Dec.
Admission charge
The museum dislpays exhibits from the 13th century to the present day.

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (MNCARS)
Opening hours: 10-21, Sundays 10-14.30. Closed Tuesday.
Admission charge; Free entrance on Saturday after 14.30, Sunday mornings and on 18th May, 12th October, 6th December
Exhibits include work by Spanish artists from the late 19th century to the Second World War such as Pablo Picasso (including his famous Guernica painting), Juan Gris, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, etc. The second half of the collection shows artistic trends from from the 40's to the early 80's with works by artists such as Antonio Saura and Eduardo Chillida.

National Museum of Decorative Arts, Calle Montalbán, 12
Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday 9.30 - 15.00, Suturdays and Sundays 10.00 - 14.00, Mondays closed
This museum contains ceramics, gems, works in glass and other materials, oriental art and up to 30,000 different decorative objects from the past.

Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Calle Alcalá, 13
Opening hours: Tues-Fri 9.00-19.00, Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays 9.00-14.30.
The museum has a good collection of paintings by Spanish artists, as well as a large number of sculptures, drawings, silverware, etchings, etc.

National Museum of Science, Jose Gutierrez Abascal, 2.
Opening hours: Tues- Fri 10.00-18.00, Saturdays 10.00-20.00, Sundays 10.00-14.30, Mondays closed.
The museum contains information and examples of the history and life on the Earth and the nature on Earth.

Wax Museum, Paseo de Recoletos, 41.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10.00-14.30 and 16.30-20.30, Saturdays and Sundays 10.00-20.30.
The Wax Museum has a hall dedicated to historical Spanish and International figures, a "scary ride" in a train and a movie about the history of Spain.
