Majorca travel guide

Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and home to Palma, the archipelago’s capital city with a population of 300.000. A large part of the island has been taken over by big hotel groups and apartment complexes and the place is particularly famous for its active nightlife that together with the neighbouring Ibiza boast some of the largest and best nightclubs in Europe. However there are still untouched corners with lush green scenery, traditional fishing villages and quiet beaches with hidden coves, some of which are only accessible by boat. The least developed parts of the islands are the northern and the eastern areas. The northwest coast dominated by the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains covered with pine trees and olive groves is a fantastic area for trekking. Most package holiday makers go to Magaluf, in the south west corner of the island where most of the clubs are located. Meanwhile neighbouring Palma with its lavish five-star hotels attracts the rich and famous. Away from Magaluf and Palma, tourists in search of a quiet and picturesque holiday stay in converted castles, medieval monasteries and rural farmhouses.
Majorca has something to offer to everybody and is the ideal place for families with teen-agers or groups of friends who like to have variety in their holiday.
