January
The Three Kings - Procession of three carriages which parades around the city with the three kings inside who distribute sweets and presents to the children in the crowds.

February
Carnival - The february carnival is celebrated everywhere in Spain before the 40 days of Lent and usually involves elaborate costumes, a parade and street dancing.

April
Holy Week (Semana Santa) - Easter week is celebrated all over Spain, in Malaga long processions fill the city’s historical center and as the people walk through the city, art work such as paintings and sculptures representing Christ are carried on decorated thrones.

May
Spanish Film Festival - Cimema showcase which gives Spanish film professionals the opportunity to display their work. This well respected event has the Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas  as honorary president.

June
Eve of San Juan - This festival features various performances at Parque del Oeste and different beaches around the city to celebrate the summer solstice on San Juan’s eve. Orchestral performances and fireworks are part of the program.

July
Malagueñas Contest - This is a contest of Malagan folk music organised by Malaga’s City Council. A competition is held among those who compose and then perform their compositions, either as solo or in a group or choir performance.

August
Feria de Málaga (Malaga Fair) - This is one of southern Europe’s longest summer fairs, a 10-day celebration beginning with firework displays at the opening ceremony. Celebrations include parades held all over the city streets, particularly interesting is the one featuring Arabian horses pulling along brightly colored carriages. Acting and singing performances are plentiful, as well as other more traditional events such as bullfighting and gipsy flamenco music and dancing.
