This is only a selection of the many events that take place in Valencia and the surrounding areas every year.

March
Las Fallas - It is Valencia's best street party taking place from the 13th to the 19th of March. The Fallas are creations of paper mache divided into different groups according to quarters (or barrios), which are placed on street corners and set alight on the night of the feast of St. Joseph creating multiple bonfires. These paper mache puppets are called "ninots" by the Valencians and are usually built with satirical allusion to events and personalities of the moment. They are usually the result of a year's work for hundred's of people who compete on creating the best and most original figures destined to burn on the night of March 19th in towering flames.

April
Semana Santa (Holy Week) - Holy Week is celebrated all over Spain, in Valencia solemn, colourful religious processions from the cathedral and around the churches of the seaside barrios of Malvarrosa and Cabanyal recall the events prior to the crucifixion of Christ culminating with the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Danza València - A series of  contemporary dance performances by local, national and international dance companies are held in venues across Valencia in late April and early May.

June
Fiesta de San Juan (Midsummer's Solstice) - Bonfires, fireworks and partying on the streets in Valencia and every town in the region to celebrate the midsummer's solstice.

Bienal - Valencia's excellent biennial festival of the arts takes place every other year attracting some recognised artists. The event features special art exhibitions in most of the major venues as well as theatre and dance performances.

July
Feria de Julio (July's Fair) - Valencia's summer festival features parades, a series of bullfights at the Plaça de los Bous and a flower battle.

August
FIB (Festival Internacional de Benicàssim) - Large outdoor music festival that has become one of the biggest on the Mediterranean featuring international music names.

Festival Música Antigua y Barroca - Annual festival featuring medieval and baroque music takes at various venues across the town throughout the month of August.

La Tomatina - This event takes place on the last wednesday in August in Buñol. The world's biggest food fight with thousands of tons of tomatoes are thrown at each other in an annual street battle where nobody can be a spectator and nobody is spared.

September
Mediterranean Music Festival - This music festival taking place in mid September celebrates different music styles from around the Mediterranean.

October
International Firework Festival - Huge fireworks display taking place on the 8th of October.

Festa de la Comunitat Valenciana - Celebrations commemorating the conquest of Valencia by Jaume I. Boys give their girlfriends marzipan figures wrapped in a handkerchief called mocadoras in Spanish.

November
Valencia Moto GP - The Ricardo Tormo circuit hosts the Road Racing World Championships grand finale with this race at the Valencian Moto GP.
